Mrs. Riopka is a teacher at Mesa and has been working at the school for eight years. She teaches guitar and Girls’ Choir to both high school and middle school. She joined choir in high school, but didn’t find her love for music until college; when she didn’t pass AP biology, she was told to take another class. The only option that was available was choir. She never planned on joining, but had no other choice. Throughout the class, she learned that conducting and studying music was what she really wanted to do all along. As a result, after college, she became a choir teacher. Her quote for students that may want to try out choir is, “Be willing to try to be a singer.”
Choir’s next upcoming show for Girls’ Choir is Song of the Season, which will be hosted on December 7th at the CMMS performing arts theater. Girls’ Choir must practice and prepare for 2 weeks, learning the songs as well as the walks on and off-stage. They plan on singing Christmas and Hanukkah music at the show. They are holding tryouts soon to find a lead soloist. Mrs. Riopka hopes to find people that also have a love for music.
