Olivia Rojas is the starting point guard for the Costa Mesa Middle School Mavericks girls basketball team. Olivia is 13 years old, born on April 30th 2010. She started playing in 2nd grade when one of her neighbors, Jayden Nguyen, introduced her to basketball, and she enjoyed it. So from then on that’s what started her basketball journey. Olivia also played for last seasons (2022) girls basketball team. She decided to join again because last season was a fun experience for her, she also looked forward to making new friendships and learning more about basketball. Olivia said “One of my biggest weaknesses is when one bad thing happens I get discouraged to do anything else, for example Olivia said “ Shooting is one of my favorite aspects of basketball so if I miss a lot of shots I then get discouraged to play.”-
On this year’s team there are a total of 6 girls: Olivia Rojas, Skye Simmonds, Marley Howard, Michaela Hylton, Yakelyn Soto, Lucia Mcdaniel. According to one of the players, Skye Simmonds said, “usually before our games we listen to music while dancing and being crazy.” To get them hyped up they usually listen to artist like Drake, Yeat, Future, Kanye West, and Travis Scott. For the warm-ups, they do lay up lines and shooting lines. In their last six games, they scored 17 points. In conclusion, the girl’s basketball team has a chance at the playoffs and Olivia is excited to play and hopes that the team will succeed.
