On November 7, 2023, the Costa Mesa Middle School girls’ basketball team had their last game against Sowers. Before every game the team listens to music and do layup lines and shooting lines.
According to one of the players, Michaela Hylton, “My game plan was to basically try to give everyone the ball so they have a chance to have a shot and have fun.” Michaela also said, “I think that we could’ve communicated better as a team and made more shots.” Michaela said,“The best part about the game was when they made their first shot during the game because they couldn’t get around other people.” During the first quarter, the girls scored 2 points, and Coach Maldonado got mad, but during halftime she told them to get their heads in the game.
Since it was their last game, she said, “I was a little sad and excited at the same time because we wouldn’t have to wake up every morning at 6am. Michaela and some of her teammates said they played well however they think they could’ve done better. The biggest struggle for the team was making shots and getting around people. The game then finished, some of them were happy and sad. Some teammates went home, to the lockers room, but all around, everyone said it was a fun season and a fun experience for them to make new friendships, memories, and having fun.
