On October 28th, 2023, Matthew Perry was found unresponsive in his hot tub in Los Angeles. No one knows the cause, as he was found completely healthy before his death. After emergency services responded, he was found completely sober, even after struggling with addictions. EMTs say that “His death was most likely due to drowning.” Marta Kauffman, one of the writers of ‘Friends’, said about Perry that “He was in a really good place” when she talked to him about 2 weeks before his passing (New York Post).
Perry’s fellow Friends castmates–Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox. Lisa Kudrow, Matt Leblanc and David Schwimmer–released a joint statement, stating, “We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family.” They also stated “In time we will say more, as and when we are able,” the statement continued. “For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world” (New York Times). The cast attended his funeral, proving that all of them were still quite close to each other.
NBC, the network that aired the sitcom, stated, “He brought so much joy to hundreds of millions of people around the world with
his pitch perfect comedic timing and wry wit. His legacy will live on through countless generations.” –
