The Israel-Hamas War has taken the lives of many and has continued to this day. The first invasion took place in the Gaza Strip and began on October 7, 2023, continuing to the present day. It started in the morning when the Hamas launched 5,000 rockets on Israel, killing a total of 1,500 citizens by the end of October. 3,000 Palestinian militants broke through the Gaza-Israel barrier during this event, setting homes on fire and attacking Israel’s military bases. The invasion was characterized as a terrorist attack by 44 nations, most of them Western.
Looking further into the situation, Hamas has stated that the attack broke out because of their long-building anger over Israeli policy. It was more generally over how the Palestinians were treated and the expansion of Israeli settlements. Israel and the US have made it clear that both governments believe there’s no “moral equivalence” drawn between Hamas attacks on the people of Israel, as they’ve slaughtered families and killed hundreds of people, including one event with young adults at a music festival being murdered.
During the devastating Israeli strikes, Israel bombed the densely populated Jabaliya refugee camp in Northern Gaza for the second time in two days. On Wednesday, there was a prompt warning of war crimes from the international community. Attacks that morning continued into Thursday morning. Among these latest ambushes, more than 20 people were killed.
Over 240,000 Israelis are now displaced as a result of Hamas’s attack, with northern border communities joining Gazan border towns. “This war left nothing safe—not churches, not mosques or anything. Today, they dropped the leaflet, ordering us to leave for the alleged safe area. Now we are beyond this area of Wadi Gaza, and we are still hearing bombardments. There is no safe place in Gaza,” one citizen says. Many families are left without homes as the war continues.
