Beetlejuice, a popular 1988 film, will receive a sequel after 36 years of a long-awaited arrival, called Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. This will be a comedy/horror film directed by Tim Burton with an expected PG-13 rating, unlike the original film that was rated PG. It will initially be released on September 5, 2024, just before the Halloween season.

Geena Davis will not be returning to Beetlejuice 2, disappointing fans of the Beetlejuice franchise. “No, I’m not. I’m not in the remake,” she stated. Luckily, the original actor for Beetlejuice, Michael Keaton, will be coming back on set. Jenna Ortega will play the role of Astrid Deetz, Lydia’s daughter. Lydia herself will be played by Winona Ryder. Catherine O’Hara, from the original cast, will be playing Delia Deetz.

This movie provides an inside look at Lydia, still haunted by Beetlejuice. When her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of Adam Maitland’s town in the attic, the portal to the Afterlife is opened by her curiosity.

The sequel picks up decades later, after the original film, when a death in the family occurs. “That’s all I will say,” Tim Burton tells EW in an interview. “There’s something that happens that sets things in motion.” Could this further explain the death in the family? One thing is for sure: Beetlejuice comes back into play, tormenting the new family, paying homage to the original film.

A Beetlejuice sequel has been talked about off and on. “Unless it felt right, he had no burning desire to do it,” the director recalls. “I think we all felt the same way. It only made sense if it had an emotional hook.”
