The NBA Draft is an annual event in which the top prospects that are eligible and declare for the draft can be picked by each of the 30 NBA teams. Below is a mock draft of the 2024 NBA Draft’s Top 5 picks. Each pick is entirely based on statistics and other factors related to the game of basketball.
Pick 1: Atlanta Hawks, Alex Sarr
Team: Perth Wildcats
Position: PF/C
Size: 7’1, 216 lbs
Age: 19
Nationality: French
Points Per Game: 9.7
Rebounds Per Game: 4.4
Blocks Per Game: 1.3
Alex Sarr can be compared to last season’s first pick, Victor Wembanyama. Sarr can fill in a much-needed gap for the Hawks, length and athleticism.
Pick 2: Washington Wizards, Zaccharie Risacher
Team: JL Bourg-en-Bresse
Position: PF/SF
Size: 6’9 210lbs
Age: 19
Nationality: French
Points Per Game: 10.1
Rebounds Per Game: 3.8
Assists Per Game: 0.9
After this season, the Washington Wizards could really take anyone and be better. While the Wizards fell short of the first pick, Risacher could still be an excellent shot creator and defensive player around the rim.
Pick 3: Houston Rockets, Reed Sheppard
Team: Kentucky Wildcats
Position: PG/SG
Size: 6’3, 187 lbs
Age: 19
Nationality: American
Points Per Game: 12.5
Rebounds Per Game: 4.1
Assists Per Game: 4.5
Reed Sheppard possesses a great shooting ability and athleticism, which the Houston Rockets desperately need. Sheppard can be an excellent second option to the Rockets’ main Point Guard, Fred VanVleet.
Pick 4: San Antonio Spurs, Nikola Topic
Team: KK Crvena zvezda
Position: PG/SG
Size: 6’6, 201lbs
Age: 18
Points Per Game: 14.5
Assists Per Game: 5
Rebounds Per Game: 4
Last season, the Spurs’ picked up the first pick of the draft, Victor Wembanyama. Victor Wembanyama is a center for the team and is overall the best player on the team. A guard like Nikola Topic could be the first step in a crucial rebuild for the Spurs’.
Pick 5: Detroit Pistons, Matas Buzelis
Team: G League Ignite
Position: SF
Size: 6’10, 209lbs
Age: 18
Points Per Game: 14.1
Rebounds Per Game: 6.6
Assists Per Game: 1.9
During the season, the Detroit might’ve had one of the worst seasons out of any team in the league’s history. The Pistons lacking defense, as their star player, Cade Cunningham, is primarily a shooter. While there may be some overlap, Matas Buzelis is a great fit for the Detroit Pistons.
