This year, numerous events have taken place since day one, August 21, 2023. Rallies throughout the year encouraged scholars to interact and uplift each other through comradery. As a check-in, a Back to School Night was hosted on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. Parents observed the campus, student achievements, and met teachers. Shortly after, on Thursday, September 21, all clubs gathered together to host the annual Club Rush at the high school lunch tables. Students interacted with club members and purchased food/drink.
Moving into October, a Chills and Thrills dance was hosted on “Friday the 13th.” Donations of sustenance and decorations were supplied by teachers and parents. On Halloween, a Trick or Treat event was held in the MS Enclave. During winter, Santa’s Village was hosted at the high school Dome on December 8. Similar to Club Rush, this event allowed students to have more opportunities to join clubs if they hadn’t already.
After Winter Break, the Basketball Lightning Tournament took place on February 13, 2024. During lunch, students Lenox Lemus, Luke Hobbis, Jackson Burke, Aidan Ramos, and Aiden Moreno competed against Dr. Potnis. Shortly after this event, students and staff members flew to DC and NYC during spring break, February 17 to 22. Students who attended this trip visited memorials dedicated to 9/11 victims in New York, the Pearl Harbor dedication between the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial, the White House, Arlington National Cemetery, Library of Congress, the World Trade Center memorial, the Empire State Building, and the Statue of Liberty on Ellis Island.
A month later, ASB hosted the Mavericks in Wonderland Dance on March 8. This was successful and raised money for the school. A week later, on March 14, the Multicultural Food Fair occurred at the high school Dome. Once again, like Club Rush, this event allowed students to try several foods from various cultures. The following week, Spring Spotlight commenced on March 21, after school in the MS Enclave. Incoming seventh graders and their parents were given the chance to discover the community, clubs, sports and elective courses.
Next year, we are looking forward to enjoying these events once again, with the addition of our new WEB program. Incoming 7th graders “will feel right at home” with guidance from our freshmen. This year, students enjoyed several activities, from athletics to being involved with Mesa. The 2023-24 school year will be well remembered by all.
