Addie Juelfs and Kennedy Walker have been students at Costa Mesa High School, from freshman to senior year. Throughout high school, they have learned a lot socially and academically.

Addie is going to attend Yale University. Her biggest piece of advice to incoming freshmen is to figure out what you like to do and pursue it. “Finding things you’re passionate about inside and outside of school and working at them is important.” says, Addie Juelfs. For her, she was passionate about creative writing so she went to a summer writing workshop, posted some of her work online, and was an editor of a literary magazine. “Making goals and striving to achieve them is very helpful. Being passionate about your goals is the most important thing you can do to achieve them.”

Kennedy Walker is going to attend Cal Poly SLO. To help prepare for college, she took advantage of Costa Mesa’s harder courses and AP’s. She said, “Getting used to faster paced classes is definitely helpful, as well as doing community service.” During high school, there can be lots of drama and rumors flying around. “Everybody is growing as a person, you should take everything with a grain of salt. It’s good to realize that everybody in ten years is going to be a different person,” says Kennedy Walker.

High school can be really hard, but hopefully this advice can help you have the best experience and grow as a person.
